Working to Resolve Postal Service Issues
Friend, I've heard from many constituents about the severe mail delays facing our district. This is deeply concerning as folks depend on a reliable postal service that delivers essential items, including bills and prescription medications, on time. Just like you all, I am very frustrated. I have urged Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and other USPS executives to explain the ongoing mail delays stemming from the Richmond Distribution Facility and how the postal service plans to remedy these issues. Unfortunately, the postal executives have yet to provide an adequate explanation for these issues nor a plan to improve their delivery system, so I am exploring new avenues to hold them accountable and ensure my constituents receive the postal delivery service they deserve. I am working to hold the Postal Service accountable, and wanted to share with you my most recent actions and updates:
- In August, I sent a letter to the Postmaster General DeJoy requesting information following outreach from constituents with concerns about mail delays and their effects.
- After the Postal Service gave insufficient answers to what was causing delays, I met with USPS officials in December to continue advocating for my constituents that have been impacted by these delays.
- Most recently, I joined my Virginia delegation colleagues to demand answers from the Postmaster General after the Richmond VA received hundreds of cancer test samples that were unusable due to mail delays.
- I am working with my Virginia colleagues to plan a visit to the Richmond distribution facility to see firsthand the issues that are causing delays.
I am committed to helping resolve constituents' mail delivery disruptions and will continue to follow up with the Postmaster General until the USPS restores reliable and efficient postal service for Virginia's First District. Sincerely,
