Planning Commission Recommends Approval of Plaza at Jefferson Land Use and Zoning Changes


The Newport News Planning Commission at their semi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, voted to recommend that the City Council approve an amendment to the 2030 Framework for the Future Comprehensive Plan that would support a rezoning of the property for a commercial development.  The Peninsula Airport Commission on behalf of the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is asking for a change to the comprehensive plan land use map in order to support a shopping center near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Brick Kiln Boulevard. Civil War Re-enactment this Weekend at Endview Plantation


Civil War history will come to life on April 9th and 10th as reenactors and living historians re-create historic battles and camp life at Endview Plantation. The focus of this year’s event will be the “1862 Siege of Yorktown”.   A newly opened quarter mile trail will host tours on Saturday, and will be open for self-guided tours throughout the weekend.  Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.  The hours of the event are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission is $9.00 per person.  Children under the age of 7 are free. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the budget process by attending and speaking at one of two scheduled public hearings.

Newport News residents are invited to attend the 2 public hearings on the recommended FY2017 budget. If you can’t get there in person, watch live on NNTV on your desktop or mobile device.
