Record of support for alexanderofyork@yorkteaparty.org

Organizing for Action
Robert --

"Many hands make light work..."

...That's pretty much the whole idea behind grassroots organizing.

We don't have the powerful interests spending hundreds of millions. (And we don't need them.)

We have supporters like you, and at big fundraising deadlines, we're absolutely relying on you to come through and make a donation.

Can we count on you, Robert?

According to our records associated with this exact email address, here's what we have marked down for you:

-- 2014 Membership Status: Not yet
-- Suggested Action: Donate $5 or more today.

Every day when I come to work, I see why organizing matters. It's about building relationships, and empowering communities to stand up and be heard.

It's truly inspiring.

But when we're facing a huge budget deadline like Monday's, it's also incredibly nerve-wracking.

Our grassroots programs depend on support from folks like you -- anyone who is ready to take action across the country.

We set a goal of reaching 20,000 grassroots donations before Monday at midnight. We have just 12,427 contributions left to go. That breaks down to about 3 donations from Yorktown. We can do that, right?

Every donation here goes a long way. (And it's my job to make sure of that!)

Before our critical fundraising deadline on Monday night, chip in $5 or more:

Thanks,

Neeti

Challenge: 4 donations from Yorktown

Organizing for Action
Robert --

This movement is built by you, and for you -- but that concept is kind of hard for our accountants to understand when it comes to setting a budget.

So let's talk about real numbers:

Our critical fundraising deadline is on the 30th, and by my calculations, we are about 20,000 grassroots donations short of our goal.

This is how we're going to get there -- we need 4 donations from Yorktown.

Chip in $5 or more today, before our critical fundraising deadline.

There are OFA chapters across the country doing amazing things in their communities as we speak.

Supporters in Las Cruces, New Mexico, are organizing to raise the minimum wage at the local level. Our folks in Washington state are fighting to pass a ballot initiative for stronger background checks on gun purchases.

All together this spring, OFA chapters across the country graduated 785 top-notch organizers from our fellows training program.

That's how we win real, lasting change: by investing in the grassroots and growing this movement community by community.

That's why fundraising deadlines like this matter. Will you donate $5 or more right now?

[YorkTeaParty.org] York BoS grab more power then cap the night by voting themselves a raise was updated

Robert Alexander updated the post Announcements » York BoS grab more power then cap the night by voting themselves a raise. View the changes below.

Color key: Insertion | Deletion

Matters of morality, hubris and willful circumvention of Virginia law were ignored and dismissed as "fluff" and "theatrics" as York County's Board of Supervisors roundly supported 3 proposals aimed at securing power by getting around recent Virginia House Bill 1089 that clarified the farms protection act and Senate Bill 51 which directly threatened the county government's power to approve or deny any and every county citizen their right to produce food on a case by case basis.  The board members were intoxicated on the power given to them by county residents who so confused by local ordinances that they were panicked at the thought of loosing the ability to bully their neighbors for engaging in commerce without permission.

Simply put, the proposals were to 1: amend the comprehensive plan; 2: create a new type of zone; and 3: to apply that zone to York Point.  In the course of the meeting citizens each were allowed to make 3 minute statements regarding each of the 3 proposals.  The remarks became almost heated at times with side comments occasionally being shared out of order between citizens with apposing views.  Confusion abounded about the purpose of zoning laws being to regulate commerce rather then the burden of a land use on county infrastructure and the infringement on the rights of fellow land owners.  But the proper purpose of such laws were completely lost on the supervisors themselves and all efforts to point them in the right direction were proven worthless as each member of the board took turns demonstrating their utter contempt for the truth and the citizens of York County.  Only Mr. Hrichak was tempered enough to not vote in favor of the last of the 3 proposals while the others all made insulting remarks about the citizen speakers and each still insisting they needed this extra power in spite of admitted ambiguities. They even sited a need to reign in commercial enterprise to "protect citizens."

I left the meeting before the vote on the supervisor's salary was completed. I could not take the chance of my head exploding.

ACTION NEEDED: Vote NO on York County anti-agriculture zoning change

Tonight at 7:00 pm the York County Board of Supervisors will vote to strip the first neighborhood in York County of agricultural rights among others.  They have identified 80 other neighborhoods.  Will yours be next?  Even if you don't live in the County, your County may take notice of York and follow along.  This could be the first of many dominos to fall.

Please help by going to the following link with more information and sign the petition that will email the York Board of Supervisors:

Or write them an email opposing the rezoning of York Point!

The meeting is tonight!

By now you've read the headlines: House and Senate Republicans united to pass a budget that addresses Virginia's $1.5 billion revenue shortfall and does not include Obamacare's Medicaid expansion.

As I mentioned in my previous email, the shortfall was filled partially by accessing the Commonwealth's rainy day fund. The balance was filled by cutting spending.

Despite these cuts, we were able to protect funding for K-12 education, mental health reforms, and investments in the Virginia Retirement System. For detailed information about the budget, please click HERE.

At no point did the budget include language that would have allowed the Governor to expand Medicaid without the approval of the Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission.  However, because reports suggested that Governor McAuliffe may act on his own to expand Medicaid, the General Assembly added a clarifying section that unequivocally prohibits the expansion of Medicaid without the approval of the legislature.

Now that the budget has passed, I am encouraging Governor McAuliffe to sign it without any substantial amendments and without inserting Medicaid expansion. We cannot afford further delays.

Thank you to all who took the time to contact me, call the Governor's office, and sign the petition urging the Governor to pass a budget. Although I expect the Governor and the Democrats will offer a proposal to expand Medicaid, I am pleased that we passed a clean budget that includes no provision for expansion. Once the budget is signed, we can return to Richmond to debate Obamacare's Medicaid expansion and its impact on the Commonwealth.
