[Yorktown-Politics-Meetup] Trip to Charlottesville to visit Monticello and wine taste

Hello, members. For those who are interested in the trip to Charlottesville to visit Monticello and the local wineries, I have put together a list of B&B's, wineries to visit and optional itinerary. One factor to keep in mind, if you are interested in staying in a B&B in close proximity, the average cost per night for a room is around $200-$250, more or less, depending on how extravagant your taste and wallet. Also, consider that this is Harvest Season and the room availability is limited. Of course, there is always the option of a hotel room for around $100/night. See below for B&B locations that are nearby and contact information for each so you may explore individually.

Keep in mind that I am only providing wineries and B&B's and the weekend days as an option so please keep this information as a format to build on as a group. Our dates, as agreed in last night's meeting (Tuesday, September 19) would be the weekend of  Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 and/or Sunday, November 5.

How Do Citizens Participate In The Comprehensive Plan Process?

Effective citizen participation in the planning process ensures that diverse interests and perspectives are considered and incorporated into the comprehensive plan. It also helps gain more widespread public support for plan adoption and implementation. Citizen input informed and guided the planning process for the One City, One Future Comprehensive Plan under the direction of a citizen advisory committee. The 28-member committee was comprised of appointed officials, citizens, and other stakeholders representing a cross-section of our city’s population. This committee assisted the Planning staff with development of the comprehensive plan.

A diverse mix of people, representing all walks of life in Newport News, participated in the planning process. Read more...

Rental Property Inspections Ensure Safe Housing Conditions

Last fall, the Newport News City Council enacted an ordinance that established Residential Rental Property Inspection districts and required owners of affected properties to obtain periodic inspections. The program works to ensure that tenants are living in safe and sanitary conditions and helps to prevent single family homes becoming illegal boarding houses. Three inspection districts were established within the downtown and Southeast Community.

The Department of Codes Compliance initiated the Residential Rental Property Inspection program this summer, notifying the owners of approximately 3,500 rental units in the first district (downtown area) of the need to file an application with Codes Compliance to arrange for an inspection. Hurricane Prepardness

News from Representative Taylor

Click here to open this e-mail in its own browser window     Click here to open a plain text version of this email

Dear Friend,

The most recent reports from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the hurricane advisory body for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), indicate that Hurricane Irma will make contact with the Eastern Seaboard of the United States and travel north, possibly impacting large portions of Virginia. As we have seen with Hurricane Harvey, these storms have the potential to damage infrastructure and severely impede emergency response capabilities. Please keep in mind that conditions may change.

In the event the storm turns towards Virginia, I have compiled contact information for federal, state, and local authorities to help you prepare for the worst this storm could bring. If no resources are available in your immediate area, contact the Virginia Emergency Management Agency to ask about other resources or to obtain contact information.

My office stands ready to help should you or your loved ones require assistance during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

SCOTT TAYLOR
Member of Congress
