Fwd: **YORK COUNTY CITIZENS - IMPORTANT MEETINGS THIS WEEK**

The York County Tuscany Forum Will NOT Meet in March

**HOWEVER**

Two Events This Week Need ALL York County Citizens Attention!!

Tuesday Evening, March 15th
Board of Supervisors Meeting on the York County Redistricting Plan
One Citizens Concern:

Mr. Walt Zaremba,
In reviewing the redistricting plans Thursday at the Tabb library, we saw some widely different options. We learned that options A, B, and C were developed earlier and that you requested option D be developed more recently. I am unclear about the rationale for the boundaries on the option you requested as they extend like octopus tentacles into the lower county. It seems to be much less compact and contiguous than the others, but I am open to correction.  Understanding your rationale for requesting option D would help me to make an informed and rational determination about the options.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Dr. Linda Hutchinson

Thursday Evening, March 17th
Board of Supervisors Public hearings on the FY2012 Proposed Budget and the Calendar Year 2011 Proposed Tax Rates

Tuesday and Thursday evening, March 15th and 17th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

NASA Skywatchers at New Quarter Park on March 12

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The NASA/Langley Exchange Skywatchers astronomy club will be setting up their telescopes at New Quarter Park on Saturday, March 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. and invite visitors to the park to look and ask questions.

The public is invited to view celestial objects through club member's equipment, and the moon can also be viewed well through high-quality binoculars. In addition to the moon, expect to glimpse the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades Star Cluster. The astronomers occasionally adjust their scopes to other interesting celestial objects, so visitors should stop at each astronomer's telescope to see what's up.

Visitors are welcome to arrive 30 minutes early to talk to the astronomers about astronomy and their telescopes before it is fully dark. Scout leaders should call ahead to discuss using the venue to earn merit badges.

From the Colonial Parkway, exit at Queen's Lake and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Travel a short distance to Lakeshead Drive. Follow this road into the park. From Interstate 64, take exit 242, Route 199 toward Jamestown, then take the first exit on Route 143 west. Turn right on Penniman Road, travel one block, and then turn left on Hubbard Lane. Don't forget: Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery

March 9, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It is that time of year again when we move from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time and adjust our clocks forwardone hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13.

In today's fast-paced world, we often forget to stop and do the small things in life that matter most. The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety would like to remind you that when you change your clocks, you should also change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

"The 'Change Your Clock Change Your Battery' program could make the difference in surviving a fire in your home," said Fire Chief Stephen Kopczynski.

The National Fire Protection Association reports that a home fire death occurs somewhere in the nation approximately every three hours. In fact, in 2009, one structural fire occurred every 66 seconds and one civilian fire injury occurred every 31 minutes across the United States. A working smoke alarm doubles a family's chances of escaping, thus surviving a home fire, but only if it works. It is critical for families to adopt the life-saving habit of "Change Your Clock Change Your Battery" to make sure they take this one simple step to help keep their families safe.

York County residents who are unable to change their own smoke alarm battery or do not have a working smoke alarm are encouraged to contact a family member, neighbor or friend to assist; residents who are unable to have their batteries changed or are without a working smoke alarm and cannot afford to obtain one should contact the Department of Fire and Life Safety at 757-890-3600.

In addition, the Department of Fire and Life Safety recommends that residents take time to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms by pushing the test button, planning "two ways out" and planning escape routes with the entire family.

Additional safety note: with the introduction of 10-year lithium batteries available for use in smoke alarms, replacement may not be needed on an annual basis. However, regular cleaning and testing remains an important safety measure.

For more information, call 757-890-3600.
