TIPS FOR PETRESCUERS
 
SO YOU'RE A PETRESCUER, NOW WHAT? FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO BE SAFE AND SAVVY AS YOU LOOK FOR LOST HOMEAGAIN PETS:
 
Read your Lost Pet Alerts and take note of the missing pet’s description.
 
Keep a lookout in your neighborhood, during your commute, and talk to friends & neighbors.
 
If you’ve seen or found a pet from a Lost Pet Alert, report it to HomeAgain.
 
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FIND A LOST PET:
 
Assess the situation carefully. If you feel safe, slowly approach the lost cat or dog.
 
If the lost pet is aggressive or otherwise unstable, call a local shelter or animal control for help.
 
If you feel safe approaching the pet and it is wearing a collar with ID tags, check for information about the owner and let them know you found their lost pet.
 
If the pet is not wearing visible identification but you are able to safely approach the pet, take it to the nearest animal shelter or veterinary clinic to be scanned for a microchip.
 
If you are unable to approach the pet or determine the pet’s owner, contact your local animal control agency. Animal control can scan the pet for a microchip and get the pet off of the streets, so it doesn’t get injured.
 
  Some PetRescuers may decide to shelter a friendly cat or dog until the owner can be contacted or while waiting for the owner to arrive. In those situations, it’s important to keep the lost pet separate from your children and pets. Even the friendliest pets may act out in an unfamiliar environment!

PVWC Cruise to Cul's Courthouse Grille, 24 July 21

Alex,

We are confirmed with Cullen to have a <late> lunch at Cul's Courthouse Grille on Saturday, 24 July 21. Their address is:
10801 Courthouse Rd Charles City, VA 23030

I told him we are planning on being there around 1:30 PM with 15-20 people.

Please send an email to club members to let them know about the event.  Ask to let you know they are coming by the 21st, I would like to give Cullen a headcount on the 22d or 23d. 

I'm guessing most of the group will convoy from Patriot Square in Yorktown.

A link to "a" route route is included below, but with old VWs, I'd consider modifying the route to take the Colonial Parkway for the first part of the drive (instead of I-64), then take VA Route 5 the rest of the way.  The Google Maps route is projected for 50 minutes, I think taking the Parkway would add at least half an hour to that time.  So, I'm thinking you may want to head out around noon.


Simone and I will either get there ahead of the main body, or meet you somewhere on Route 5 and follow the group to the restaurant.

As before, they're looking forward to hosting us.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men
who signed the Declaration of  Independence ?                                
 
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.
 Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army
Another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the
War for Independence
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
 What kind of men were they?
 Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants,
Nine were farmers and large plantation owners, men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if  they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and  trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
 Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British  that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
 
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of  Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. 
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
 John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.

Freedom is never free!  Doing your part is more than just voting and giving lip service to feel goods.

Would you be willing to spend more time, money and effort to preserve what freedoms we can still enjoy and restore those we have lost?

Top post: Vandalism on grindstone turn

My vehicle was vandalized sometime between 12am and 6am while parked on the street in front of my house. It was "keyed" from tail light to head light on the drivers side. My wife heard a scooter come down the sidewalk, turn down the street, then turn around and come back up. It went back up the side walk and turned headed toward the pool. It seems my truck was specifically targeted because there was no other damage done to vehicles on my street. I have no clue as to why I'd be targeted for something like this. Has this happened to anyone else or if anyone has any information they can give to help me find who did this? It caused 3,000.00 worth of damage to my 2003 Chevy Silverado SS that was in mint condition. I discovered the damage around 6:30am on June 19. Any information would be greatly appreciated, I know it's a long shot but any thing to get me closer to finding the person or to be able to prevent it from happening to someone else.
