Household chemical disposal/electronics recycling event Sept. 11

York County will host a Household Chemical Disposal and Computer Electronics Recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 11. 
 
Managed by the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority, this program provides the opportunity for residents to safely dispose of a variety of chemicals and paint products, as well as to recycle home computers and other electronics. 
 
Please note that this event is being held on Saturday, Sept. 11, and not on the 18th, as listed in the York County 2010 Calendar.
 
Citizens from York, Poquoson, Hampton and James City County may bring materials to the drop-off location at 105 Service Drive near the Environmental & Development Services Complex, which is located off of Goodwin Neck Road just past the Waste Management Center in Yorktown. Hours are from 8 a.m. until noon.
 
Acceptable household chemicals that may be disposed of include: household maintenance products like latex and oil-based paints; automotive products; lawn and garden products. Acceptable computer recycling products include: computer monitors; keyboards; printers; faxes; servers; PDAs; telephones; cameras; stereo equipment; DVD players; VCRs; laptops; cell phones; copiers; Ipods; video games; jump drives.
 
Household chemicals that will not be accepted include: business or medical waste; compress gas cylinders; explosives, ammunition or gun powder; shock sensitive materials; radioactive materials; household trash. Additionally, televisions will not be accepted.
