Black Bear Sighted in Lower York County

York County officials received a citizen's report of a black bear sighting in the area of Old Williamsburg Road located in the Lackey area of York County.
Animal Control officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate the bear. If residents see a bear in their neighborhood, they should not approach the animal and should remain a safe distance away from the bear and immediately call 9-1-1. Do not add to the potential danger by following, attracting, feeding or antagonizing the bear.
York County Animal Control and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are ready to provide assistance in these matters. For more information, visit the following website: www.dgif.virginia.gov.
