HRSD and Offline Storage Facility Open House

Planning for the HSRD Pressure Reducing Station (PRS) and Offline Storage Facility that will be located on the vacant land behind Fire Station 2 and Tabb High School is now 90% complete. As a result, HSRD is hosting a project open house on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Tabb High School Commons located at 4431 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown, VA 23693.

The open house will provide you an opportunity to receive information about the project and talk with project team members. If you are unable to attend the Open House, a presentation about the updated project design is available at www.hrsd.com/tabb-pressure-reducing-station-offline-storage-facility

Leaf Collection

Beginning Monday, November 7, York County residents who live on publicly maintained roads may place an unlimited number of clear bags of leaves at the front roadside for collection every other week. Residents who live in private communities or on privately maintained roads may bring leaves to the closest public roadway for collection. Bags must be placed at the roadside by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week. Pick up will be completed by the end of the week.

For leaf collections, the County is divided into two zones:

      •  The Southern Zone includes all homes south of Dare Road, including neighborhoods in Grafton, Tabb, Brandywine, Coventry, Kiln Creek, Running Man, Calthrop Neck Road and Carys Chapel Road. Collection weeks for the Southern Zone are:

November 7 & 21         December 5 & 19     January 2 & 16

           • The Northern Zone includes all homes on and north of Dare Road, including neighborhoods along Wolf Trap Road, Goodwin Neck Road and homes in and near Marlbank, Edgehill, Queens Lake, Hubbard Lane, Skimino, and Lightfoot. Collection weeks for the Northern Zone are:

November 14 & 28        December 12 & 26     January 9 & 23

Leaves must be in clear bags no thicker than one millimeter and bags must be easy to handle by one person (maximum weight – 40 lbs.). No drawstring bags, please! Clear bags can be purchased at local hardware, grocery, and department stores. Bags containing other yard debris (sticks, etc.) and/or pet waste will not be accepted. Please note that ALL residents may bring leaves to the VPPSA Compost Facility (145 Goodwin Neck Road) year-round. The facility is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. For more information, please call York County Waste Management at 757-890-3780.

Trick-or-Treating

In York County, trick-or-treating is recommended for 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, for ages 12 and under.

Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

           •         All costumes, wigs, and accessories should be fire-resistant

           •         If children are allowed out after dark, fasten reflective tape to their costumes and bags or give them glow sticks

           •         Consider wearing bright and/or light-colored costumes, which are easier to see at night.

           •         Opt for non-toxic Halloween makeup over masks, which can obscure vision

           •         Have an adult accompany younger children

           •         Residents are asked to turn on porch lights to identify homes that wish to receive trick-or-treaters. Please avoid houses where porch lights are off.

           •         Teach your children never to enter a stranger’s home or car

           •         Tell your children not to eat any treats until they return home, and take care to avoid any food allergies

           •         Remind children to be careful, watch for traffic, and to use flashlights.

           •         Motorists should watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs, and enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.
