Locals and visitors alike will have plenty of events to check out across the Historic Triangle this week. 


The Sail Yorktown Festival is set to kick off at the Yorktown waterfront on Friday, June 12, and will run through Sunday, June 14.


The maritime celebration - an official Sail250 event - will feature tall ships and military vessels from all over the world. 


Highlights of the event include deck tours, living history programs and concerts featuring Broadway star Lexi Lawson and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. Admission is free.


On the local live music scene, free concerts will feature Klaxton Brown (New Town), Celeste Kellogg (Port Warwick), WonderLand (Yorktown) and Anthony Rosano (Tech Center).


Other notable events include the Juneteenth Freedom Fest at Freedom Park and Family Health and Fitness Day at James City County Recreation Center.

  • Archaeology Behind-the-Scenes Tour | Campbell Archaeology Center | Experience Williamsburg’s past like never before at the brand-new Campbell Archaeology Center. This tour is limited to 15 guests. Free & open to the public. Two time slots are available: 11 am - 12 pm & 2 - 3 pm. 


JUNETEENTH

  • Juneteenth: Celebrating 1865 | Williamsburg Library | This program celebrates freedom with a focus on the significance of Juneteenth. Guests will hear the voices of the enslaved through drumming and storytelling. Free. 2 - 2:30 pm. 


KIDS & FAMILIES

  • Deputy Story Time | Yorktown Library | Crime Prevention Specialist Kevin Taylor and Deputy First Class Trey Ulintz from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will be on site reading to families, and McGruff the Crime Dog will meet children and help promote safety awareness. Free. 5:30 - 6 pm. 


  • EZ Child ID Digital Fingerprinting | Yorktown Library | The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office will be at the library to offer the EZ Child ID Digital Fingerprinting System. The service captures the child's fingerprints, photo, medical information and a short video. Registration required. 6 - 7:30 pm. 


NATURE

  • Tree ID Guided Walk | Freedom Park | Become an amateur arborist by learning the basics of tree identification from bark texture and leaf styles to size and branch structure. Come prepared for a one-mile trail walk as we ID 20 trees common to the local area. For ages 8+. Weather permitted. No registration required. Free. 5:40 - 6:30 pm. 


MUSIC

  • New Town Tunes: Klaxton Brown | Sullivan Square in New Town | The New Town Tunes Concert Series continues with Klaxton Brown, a Motown dance band. Pets are welcome. Food trucks will be on site. Free & open to the public. 5 - 8 pm.

  • Virginia Declaration of Rights Dinner with Chef Michael Twitty | American Revolution Museum at Yorktown | On the eve of the 250th anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, join culinary historian and James Beard award-winning chef Michael W. Twitty for a curated feast based on cross-cultural insights. See the website for the full menu or to make reservations. 6:30 - 8:30 pm. 


  • Miss Virginia Afternoon Tea | Colonial Williamsburg | Enjoy an elegant afternoon tea experience at the Williamsburg Inn, featuring a special appearance by Miss Virginia.   • Throwback Thursday: Gigi | Williamsburg Library | This film series screens classic and contemporary movies for an adult audience. The June 11 feature is Gigi (1958, G), starring Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan. 1hr 55min. Free. 2 - 3:55 pm.

  • Downsizing Made Simple Series | Stryker Center | Presented by The Memorie Group, this series offers expert guidance and a supportive community for seniors navigating the downsizing journey. This month's topic focuses on selling and maximizing the value of your home. Free. 2 - 3 pm. 


  • Senior Planet: Free Streaming with Tubi | Williamsburg Library | Participants will learn how to use Tubi, a free online streaming service and app that offers thousands of movies and TV shows. Free. 2 - 3 pm. 


  • Building Your Legacy Blueprint: Making a Plan | James City County Library | This workshop offers a practical, step-by-step way for seniors to make plans surrounding finances, legal wishes, housing, healthcare and legacy. Presented by a panel from Senior Transition Specialists of Hampton Roads. Free. 4:30 - 6:30 pm. 


MUSIC

  • Tech Center Summer Concert Series: Anthony Rosano & The Conqueroos | Drillfield at Tech Center | Newport News | This concert series brings live music, community connection and high-energy entertainment to Newport News all summer long. This week, Anthony Rosano performs. Pets are welcome. Food trucks will be on site. Free. 6 - 9 pm. 


  • Sounds of Summer Concert Series with WonderLand | Riverwalk Landing | WonderLand's song list spans from ’70s classics to 2000s hits, including modern rock, pop, and throwback favorites. Food trucks will be on site, including Pop's Kettle Corn, Boyd's Tasty Dogs and Island Time Delights. Free & open to the public. 6:30 - 9 pm. 


  • Organ Recital: Dr. JanEl Will | Bruton Parish Church | Enjoy sacred music by candlelight presented by Dr. JanEl Will, organist at Bruton Parish. Free; donations gratefully accepted. 8 - 9 pm.

  • Hands-On: Patriotic Art | Art Museums at Colonial Williamsburg | Celebrate the 250th anniversary of America by creating patriotic art at the Goode Education Studio. Free & open to the public. 1 - 2:15 pm. 


KIDS & FAMILIES

  • Up, Up, & Away Storytime | 100 Marclay Drive | Kids of all ages are invited to attend a storytime program at Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport. Hosted by WRL. Free. 10 - 11:30 am.


  • Pollinator Passport Challenge | Freedom Park | Learn about the importance of pollinators. There will be eight pollinator stations where participants can learn about host plants, try snacks made by pollinators, dodge pesticides on an obstacle course and more. Ages 8+. Weather permitting. Free. 9 - 11 am.


  • Take Your Kid Fishing | Chickahominy Riverfront Park | Learn the fundamentals of this favorite pastime from park staff. Equipment is provided. Weather permitting. Registration not required. Free. 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

  • NRPA Family Health & Fitness Day | James City County Recreation Center | Discover the health and wellness resources available in the county. The day will feature fitness classes, nutrition education, park and rec center access, family-friendly activities and raffle prizes. Ages 4+. Free. 9 am - 1 pm. 


  • Yesterdays on the York | York River State Park | Join park staff for a special hike highlighting how the history of the York River has been intertwined with our nation. Included with park admission. 10 am - 3 pm. 


  • Pups & Pints | Frothy Moon Brewhouse | Meet adorable, adoptable dogs looking for their forever homes during this laid-back, community-focused event. Presented by C&F Bank. 11 am - 2 pm. 


  • Juneteenth Freedom Fest | Freedom Park | The YJCW-NAACPs 6th Annual Juneteenth "FREEDOM fest," in collaboration with James City County Parks & Recreation, will feature over 30 vendors, live performances, drumline engagement with Adam Canaday, food trucks and more. Free & open to the public. 11 am - 3 pm.


WELLNESS

  • Yoga at the Muscarelle | Muscarelle Museum of Art | A free, 60-minute yoga session is held at the Muscarelle on the second Saturday of each month. Led by volunteer Lisa Cleckley, the program is designed for all experience levels. Reserve your ticket here. Free. 10:30 - 11:30 am. 


  • Heartfulness Meditation | James City County Library | This monthly session introduces a simple heart-centered practice that supports relaxation, clarity and overall wellbeing. No experience needed. Free. 10:30 - 11:30 am.

  • Wild Penguins Baseball | Warhill Sports Complex | Ages 5+ with disabilities are invited to attend a fun-filled day of baseball activities. Registration is required by June 10 at noon. Free. 9 am - 3 pm.

  • Chocolate Making | James City County Library | Teens will create their own chocolates with fun ingredients. For ages 12-18. Free. 2 - 3:30 pm. 


MARKETS

  • Williamsburg Farmers Market | Downtown Williamsburg | Shop from over 40 vendors offering produce, prepared foods and baked goods, flowers, artisan chocolate, local honey, handmade soaps and more. Live music is performed weekly. Free admission. 8 am - noon. 


  • Yorktown Market Days | Riverwalk Landing | Find a wide variety of fresh produce, handcrafted goods and specialty items at Yorktown Market Days. This week, A Taste of Love with Bart and Jan will perform on the Riverwalk Landing stage. Free. 8 am - noon. 


  • Toano Open Air Market | 7891 Richmond Road | Find fresh produce, baked goods, artisan-crafted products and more at Toano's outdoor farmers market. Free admission. 9 am - noon. 


  • Hilton Village Farmers Market | 10260 Warwick Blvd | Historic Hilton Village's weekly market on Main is held every Saturday, year-round. Free admission. 9 am - noon.


MUSIC

  • Busch Gardens Concert Series: Skillet | Busch Gardens Williamsburg | Christian rock band Skillet performs at Busch Gardens on June 13. The concert is free with park admission. 7 pm.

  • National Park Service Free Entrance Day | Colonial National Historical Park | In honor of Flag Day and the president's birthday, the National Park Service will waive admission fees for Yorktown Battlefield and Colonial National Historical Park. (Note: Preservation Virginia will continue to charge its own $15 entrance fee for admission to portions of Historic Jamestowne). 


  • Juneteenth Program | American Revolution Museum at Yorktown | Celebrate Juneteenth with concerts highlighting 18th-century connections to the holiday. This event is included with museum admission. 9 am - 5 pm. 


KIDS

  • PAWS to Read | Yorktown Library | Kids will relax and have fun while improving their reading skills by reading aloud to a trained therapy dog. Free. Two sessions are available: 1:30 - 2:30 pm and 3 - 4 pm


  • Mindful Minis: Summer Yoga | James City County Recreation Center | Children are invited to move, stretch and nurture calm energy and creativity in this summer yoga adventure. For ages 6-8. Free. 1 - 1:45 pm.


  • Sensory Movie | James City County Library | This program features a movie screening in a sensory-friendly environment, geared toward those with special needs or young children. Popcorn will be provided. Free. 2 - 5 pm.

SPECIAL EVENT

  • Sail Yorktown Festival | Historic Yorktown | June 12 - 14 | Tour breathtaking tall ships and military vessels during this official SailVirginia2026 Affiliate Harbor event. There will be a variety of special activities, including artillery firings, living history programs and live music by a variety of musical groups, including the Liberty Dolls and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra.   • Blackbeard Festival | Downtown Hampton | Hampton will welcome tall ships to its harbor during the Blackbeard Pirate Festival. Step into the 18th century as pirate reenactors, led by the infamous Blackbeard, take over downtown Hampton. There will be live musical entertainment, kids’ activities, period vendors, arts and crafts, fireworks and more. Free. 12 - 6 pm. 


THEATRE

  • Suffs: The Musical | Jamestown High School | Students from Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill present the first WJCC All District Musical. "Suffs: The Musical" is a Tony Award-winning show about the women' suffrage movement in the U.S. and retells the journey of women like Alice Paul and Ida B. Wells in reflection of America' 250th anniversary. There are four show to choose from. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. 


  • Williamsburg Players Present: 1776 | 200 Hubbard Lane | May 29 - June 14 | In celebration of the nation's 250th birthday, witness the birth of a nation as our forefathers struggle to craft the Declaration of Independence. Tickets are $12 - 22. 


HISTORY

  • Beat the Retreat | Military Encampment | Colonial Williamsburg | Daily | 4 - 4:45 pm | Witness the soldiers of the 7th Virginia Regiment as they end their day by training in the manual exercise, followed by a Regimental Retreat. Free & open to the public. 


KIDS & FAMILIES

  • Summer Merchants Square Story Trail | Merchants Square | Daily, May 25 - Sept. 7 | Take a story-filled stroll through Merchants Square with "Our Flag Was Still There" by acclaimed author and illustrator Jessie Hartland. Families and readers of all ages are invited to follow the story trail. Download the story trail map or pick one up at the Williamsburg Library, then enjoy a fun and memorable literary adventure through Williamsburg. Free


EXHIBITIONS

  • The Great American Birthday Quilt Exhibition | Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center | Daily, 9:30 am - 5 pm | The Great American Birthday Quilt, created by Visit Williamsburg in collaboration with the Muscarelle Museum of Art, will be displayed throughout 2026. The meaningful piece brings together squares from people across the country to contribute to a powerful, shared story on America's 250th birthday. Free & open to the public. 


  • Picturing Freedom: Harriet Tubman and the Combahee River Raid | Hampton University Museum | Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, through June 11 | Organized by the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC, this multi-media exhibition is inspired by Dr. Edda Fields-Black’s 2025 Pulitzer Prize Award-Winning Book, "Combee: Harriet Tubman, The Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom During the Civil War." Free & open to the public.

  • New Town Tunes: Cari Lacey Band | Sullivan Square in New Town | June 17 | 5 - 8 pm | Don't miss the finale of the New Town Tunes Spring Concert Series. Cari Lacey Band will close out the season with country and blues tunes. Free & open to the public. 


  • Sounds of Summer Concert Series: En'Novation | Riverwalk Landing | June 18 | 6:30 - 9 pm | Yorktown's summer concert series continues with En’Novation, an energetic and experienced eight-piece band that performs songs from Motown, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston and more. Free


  • Meet & Greet with Quilt Artist Steve Prince | June 20 | 10 am | Attend a special meet-and-greet with Steve Prince, Director of Engagement and Distinguished Artist in Residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William & Mary. Prince will discuss the Great American Birthday Quilt collaborative project, which invites participants from across the country to craft a lasting tribute to America’s story. 


  • Early Music Concert: 1776 | Bruton Parish Church | 7 pm | Williamsburg Baroque is proud to present this award-winning program which recently was featured at the 2026 Bloomington Early Music Festival. The program consists of a display of instrumental music from the early decades of the United States. Tickets, available here, are $25 for adults and $10 for youth and students.
