York County Head Start receives classroom space; DMV 2 Go at Yorktown Library

York County Head Start receives classroom
space from The Mariners' Museum

December 5, 2012

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

In June of 2012 the leadership of The Mariners' Museum donated a double classroom modular unit to York County to be used by the York County Head Start Program. This generous donation allowed for the replacement of two older modular units which are now combined classrooms at Bethel Manor Elementary School.
According to staff of The Mariners' Museum, the modular unit was used as a classroom for the museum's educational programs, later becoming its first interactive videoconferencing studio to educate classrooms locally, across the country and around the globe. Over time, however, the museum's Education Department expanded and required additional space. The modular unit was replaced by two classrooms in the Monitor Center and the interactive video conferencing center located in proximity of the main entrance of the museum.
Anna Holloway, PhD., Vice President of Museum Collections and Programs, said of the donation, "The module allowed us to expand our education program both actually and virtually and served us well over the years. We're so very glad that it now has another home and will continue to service the education community here in Hampton Roads!"
Classes began on Tuesday, September 4th  in the new modular unit and it was an exciting experience for the Head Start staff, parents and children.
"On behalf of York County and the Head Start program, I extend my appreciation to the Mariner's Museum for such a wonderful gift that helps us to better serve Head Start families and our community," said Sheri Newcomb, Chief of York County Children's Services.

DMV 2 Go will visit Yorktown Library on Dec. 18

December 4, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) mobile office program DMV 2 Go has scheduled visits to provide services to the citizens of Yorktown.   The DMV 2 Go will visit York County Public Library – Yorktown branch - the third Tuesday of every other month. The next visit of DMV 2 Go is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Yorktown branch is located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway.
Services available at DMV 2 Go include vehicle registration, driver's license renewals, license plate renewals, and other DMV services. Veterans can obtain ID cards at the DMV 2 Go. If you are a veteran requiring an ID card, bring your DD214 with you to DMV 2 Go.
DMV 2 Go is a full service office on wheels that conducts any DMV transaction that can be done at a DMV office including applying or renewing driver's licenses and ID cards. One of the biggest advantages is that DMV comes at a convenient time and place instead of citizens going to the DMV.  DMV 2 Go has made successful visits to military bases, colleges and universities, government centers, festivals, and more. You can also visit the following link on DMV's website for more information: http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/citizen/dmv_2go.asp

Hi,

My name is Aaron West and I'm the pastor at Crossroads in Yorktown. We are
on lakeside drive. We are having a big movie event on December 15 at 6:30
and we are doing a throw back to the 1940s. I wasn't sure if anyone in your
group has a car from that time that would be willing to let us park it in
front of the church for a couple hours? It would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon...

Aaron West

Fwd: Invitation: VDOT I64 RIC-Hampton corridor expansion public meeting @ Tue Dec 11 5pm - 8pm (Glenn McGuire)

This may be a great opportunity for an Libertarian approach to be brought up.
Stacy will probably do well representing Libertarian Ideas, but support for Stacy and simular ideas would be beneficial.
Thank Stacy for her staying involved too.

A study released by the Daily Press in the last year showed more traffic crosses the Newport News/Yorktown part of I-64 than use Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, yet most of the attendtion is on the 3rd tunnel ideas. Originally I-64 was scheduled to widened to 6 lanes from Newport News to Richmond (3 each way) years ago. After several delayed, all the envirmonmental impact studies have expired (and the waisted money associated with it) and Virginia would almost have to start over.

VDOT I64 RIC-Hampton corridor expansion public meeting

This meeting could shed light upon expansions, but could also incorporate possible TOLLS. I'm sending this to you because its important that we voice our opinion on the traffic situation we deal with every day along this corridor.

Please join us for this educational session with VDOT.
