Public meetings scheduled for Lackey community

The Lackey Community Collaboration Taskforce is holding public meetings for residents of the area, and businesses and agencies serving Lackey. 
 
The purpose of the meetings is to discuss concerns and assess needs of the community. The Taskforce will develop an action plan to address some of the issues raised at the meeting. 
 
The meetings will be held at Charles Brown Park Community Building located at 1950 Old Williamsburg Road, Lackey Virginia 23690. Two sessions are offered for convenience: Tuesday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to noon and Thursday, March 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 757-253-4074 for more details.

Programs for children at the Tabb Library

Join us for Kids Yoga Story Time from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, in the Children's Activity Room at the Tabb Library.
 
Children ages 3 - 6 will enjoy this fun and energetic class where kids listen to a story and act it out using their imagination with simple yoga poses and stretches. No previous yoga experience is needed. This program is for children, without adult participation. Parents are asked to wait outside the activity room. Children should wear comfortable loose clothing and bring a yoga mat or towel. Class size is limited. Register in person at the Tabb Library Youth Services desk or by calling 757-890-5110.
 
On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Youth Services Department will host a Read Across America event celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday. Readers of all ages are encouraged to celebrate the joys of reading. There will be activities, crafts and fun beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at noon in the Children's area at the Tabb Library.
 
Dogs aren't only man's best friend, but they are great listeners, too. Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to read aloud to a certified therapy dog at our Paws to Read program at 2 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month. The sessions on Feb. 25 and March 24 will be held at the Tabb Library. Bring your own books or chose one of ours to read. Registration is not required.
 
"Pig Out on Reading" with Farmer Minor and Daisy, the pot belly pig, at a special story time at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Tabb Library. Residing on his farm in Connecticut, Farmer Minor and Daisy travel around the United States "to encourage youngsters to develop a love for reading." After the program, everyone will have the opportunity to pet Daisy, too. This program is recommended for ages 4 and up. Registration is not required.
