Newport News Public Schools Preparing Families with Back-To-School Resource Fair

School supply giveaway to students during the event


Newport News Public Schools is hosting the 2nd Annual Stand Together for Youth, a resource fair and back-to-school celebration, on Saturday August, 19 at Todd Stadium.  From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. families can connect with youth serving organizations and agencies for valuable resources that promote youth development and well-being.
 
Enjoy a day of entertainment, performances, demonstrations, exhibits, and interactive presentations. Organizers of the event are also helping to prepare students for school with free school supplies and other giveaways. Read more...

New Law

New Law Aids Investigating Financial Exploitation of Older Virginians

The Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and the Attorney General are promoting a new law aimed to assist investigations into financial exploitation of older or vulnerable Virginians. The law went into effect on July 1 and requires any report of adult financial exploitation received by the state Adult Protective Services (APS) hotline or local departments of social and human services to be reported immediately to law enforcement regardless of the amount taken. A Revolution in the Making


Join the Warwick County Historical Society Wednesday, August 16, as the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Director of Education Mark Howell offers a virtual tour of the new American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, and teases tidbits about what is coming next. The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown tells the story of the Nation’s founding, from the colonial period to the dawn of the Constitution and beyond. New indoor galleries feature period artifacts, immersive environments, interactive exhibits and films, including “The Siege of Yorktown,” with a 180-degree surround screen and dramatic special effects.
