If anyone won the Mega Millions last night, that was worth about $400 million.    That's more money than most of us can fathom.   In western Pa., a family went public with their story of winning a million on a scratch-off ticket, paid through a $1,000/week annunity. Does it feel disappointing compared with the giant jackpots? Maybe.    But the family's attitude was priceless: Keep jobs, pay bills, breathe easier – and plan a trip to Disney World. Also, the woman who bought the ticket offered some solid advice: It's good to believe in luck but don't go broke buying lottery tickets.   Now, let's take a look at this morning's headlines. (Photo by Vicki Vellios Briner, for PennLive.com) Today's talkers Trash talkers: Double-digit increases for trash removal are rolling through central Pa. as old contracts (and rates) come off the books and are replaced by new deals negotiated in a different environment.   Hungry bugs: Spotted lanterflies are emerging in the state, and they continue to threaten trees and agriculture. They're also making honey taste differently, a beekeeper says.   Election preparation: A national group wants political candidates in Pennsylvania to vow they will accept election results. This year, counties across the state will be choosing officials who will oversee the 2024 presidential election.   Abortion patients: It's been a year since the U.S. Supreme Court ended the right to abortion. Now, abortions are banned in 14 states; another half dozen have enacted early gestational limits. A tide of patients from those states have been seeking abortions in Pa. and other states where the procedure is still legal. Read more Police reports Philly mass shooting: A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire on the streets of a Philadelphia neighborhood Monday night, seemingly at a random, killing five people and wounding two boys. A suspect is in custody, but police said he didn't know the victims.   Baltimore mass shooting: Sunday's mass shooting in South Baltimore killed two people and injured 28. Police continue to search for suspects as leaders ask whether police properly responded to calls about the gathering ahead of the gunshots.   Double homicide: A York County man killed two men and a dog over the weekend at a home in Maryland, authorities said. Read more Business Gas lines: Sheetz dropped gas prices to $1.776/gallon for some fuel types yesterday to commemorate the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. Drivers waited in long lines for the deal.   Twitter rival?: An Apple Store listing for an app called Threads, Meta's answer to Twitter, could debut as early as tomorrow.   Store closes: Christmas Tree Shops, which filed for bankruptcy in May, plans to close all of its stores, including those in the Harrisburg and Camp Hill areas. Liquidation sales could begin this week.   Egg-centric restaurant: An Indian street food restaurant is opening in Hampden Township. EggMania hasn't announced an opening date. Read more Advertisement Entertainment No show: ABC27 is off the air for some central Pa. viewers due to a contract dispute between Nexstar Media Group and DirecTV/AT&T U-Verse.   Eating contest: Joey "Jaws" Chestnut ate 62 franks and buns in 10 minutes for another win at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest. The women's winner was defending champion Miki Sudo, who had 39-1/2 dogs and buns.   Fringe Festival: An arts festival is coming to Harrisburg this weekend, and it is hard to define. The Fringe Festival will include stand-up, musical theater, hip-hop, burlesque, opera and visual art. Read more Sports Horse trainer banned: Churchill Downs is extending Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert's suspension through 2024, keeping the two-time Triple Crown winner from entering horses in the Kentucky Derby and other races for an additional year over safety concerns.   2024 college football prospects: The countdown to Pa.'s 2023 high school football season is on, and once again the state will show plenty of talent.
