Proposed Harris Teeter Development on Victory Boulevard

The Southeastern Development will hold a community meeting on October 8th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Tabb Library regarding the property at 1200 Victory Boulevard.  The location is the site for a possible Harris Teeter grocery store, fuel island, and restaurant. The meeting will be held in the Tabb Library meeting room, which is the large room on the left as you enter the library.

I have discussed the possibility of a Harris Teeter development in my last two District 5 Reports. The proposed development site is near the intersection of Yorktown Road and Victory Boulevard, across from Carys Baptist Church. The 18-acre site runs from Yorktown Road towards Sinclair Lane.  When the Company approached me about the development, I established three criteria that they must meet before I would consider such a proposal:

              1. Traffic – Traffic in and out of the site must not contribute to more congestion on Victory Boulevard.

              2. Buffers – There must be considerable wooded buffers between the commercial development and nearby housing.

              3. Housing – No additional housing will be built on the site.

The company is holding the community meeting at my suggestion before formally submitting a development plan to the County.  Because the property is currently zoned residential, approval for the development will require rezoning and a public hearing before the York County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.

This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions and express your point of view on the proposal.

District 5 Town Hall Meeting

On October 13th at 7:00 P.M. in the Tabb High School auditorium, I will hold a District 5 Town Hall meeting to update you on important activities affecting our County, especially District 5. The presentation will include a series of short briefings on road projects, schools, the 1% sales tax referendum, the County budget and taxes, capital projects, and long-range planning. Sheriff Montgomery will provide an update on crime, traffic, and other public safety matters in District 5.
