York County Day of Caring effort will beautify Lackey community

August 20, 2012

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

York County and the Lackey Community Collaboration Taskforce is partnering with United Way of the Virginia Peninsula to promote volunteerism in the county through the United Way's annual Day of Caring.
The Day of Caring is an opportunity for employees in the workplace to volunteer for a single day to work on local community projects. This year, volunteers will work in Lackey to help beautify the community by removing debris and brush, mowing lawns, trimming hedges, performing minor porch repairs, and creating tire gardens from recycled tires to place at the homes of residents at their request.
Approximately 40 volunteers from over 10 businesses and agencies throughout the Peninsula have registered to participate. The United Way annual Day of Caring will take place on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. For more information about this effort, please contact Community Services at 890-3880.

In This Issue:
1. Tell Yorktown where you stand this election! 2. The next step is anarchy!

1. Tell Yorktown where you stand this election!
Leftist leaders are ramping up their attacks against Mitt Romney and his new running mate, Paul Ryan. Joe Biden even characterized Romney/Ryan in slave owner terms, saying, "[Romney and Ryan are] gonna put y'all back in chains."

But throughout the nation, Americans aren't buying it. Citizens are showing up by the thousands to Ryan events. Here at Grassfire in the past few days, we have received orders for thousands of our custom-designed "Romney/Ryan 2012" ReStickers and yard signs.

Thank you for signing!

Host a party for the convention

Obama - Biden
Robert Bruce --

I hope you haven't nailed down your plans for September 6th yet.

It's the night that President Obama will accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina -- and, for our movement, it's a chance to get together across the country to hear his acceptance speech and get energized for the final stretch.

Folks in every state are going to be hosting watch parties and spending the evening with some friends and neighbors.

Will you host a watch party on September 6th to give folks in Yorktown a place to watch the President together?

I can't wait for this year's convention, and I know from talking with our field organizers and volunteers that I'm not alone.

I bet you're already planning ahead to watch the speech. Whether you invite just a few friends or open your home to some new folks from your neighborhood, hosting one of these parties is a great way to make an impact for the campaign at the same time.

Besides being a chance to hear directly from the President, it's an opportunity to see some rising stars in the Democratic Party, and connect about what direction we want our country to go.

Hosting a watch party will help your neighbors come together and be a part of that conversation. When folks who are a part of this movement meet up and talk, we come up with the best ideas to get people organized and engaged in the political process -- and we get energized to make it happen.

Plus, events like these are one of our best ways to bring new people into this organization, and encourage those who are already involved to step up even more. When the convention is over, we'll have two short months until the last vote is cast -- so the party you throw is going to play an important part in growing our get-out-the-vote efforts in Yorktown at a critical time.

Don't be shy about stepping up to host. I promise it'll be easy, and we'll equip you with a set of host materials and a training, as well as some ways to connect with other hosts to swap tips and ideas as you prepare.

This is going to be a big night for us all. No one should be on the sidelines.

So make sure folks in Yorktown have a place to connect for the convention on September 6th and hear President Obama's acceptance speech.
