In an effort to complete collection of all eligible Hurricane Irene debris, staff conducted a County-wide survey of all areas on Saturday and Sunday, October 1st and 2nd. Eligible storm debris was mapped and provided to contractors in order to efficiently complete the final storm debris collections.
If you believe you have been missed by the County's collection contractor please call the Waste Management Office at 757 890-3780 and report your issue.
Once the contractor has collected all materials marked on our survey maps, Hurricane Irene storm debris collections will be concluded and the Waste Management Division will resume normal operations for the collection of vegetative debris.
Residents who have vegetative materials to be collected after the conclusion of Hurricane Irene's clean-up, should follow the County's normal yard debris collection policy which includes the below listed items:
- Acceptable material size for curbside pickup is 8" diameter and 10' feet in length.
- All residents may schedule one yard debris collection per month (approx. 15 cubic yards) at a rate of $25. Each additional load collected within 30 days after the first collection will be an additional $250 per load.
- Loose yard debris, grass, leaves and straw must be placed in clear bags.
- Stumps, dirt or debris with dirt, construction debris, and other materials CANNOT be collected.
- Scheduled materials must be at the front roadside by 7:00 a.m. Monday of your collection week.
