Virginia: House Committee to Vote on Sunday Hunting Bill Tomorrow Contact your Delegate TODAY and urge him or her to allow Sunday hunting! Tomorrow, January 22 at 8:30 a.m. in House Room C of the General Assembly Building in Richmond, the House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee will consider an important bill to allow Sunday hunting on private property with written permission from the owner. House Bill 1237, sponsored by Delegate Todd Gilbert, repeals the ban on Sunday hunting on private lands while still prohibiting hunting within 200 yards of a house of worship and the hunting of deer with dogs. H.B. 1237 will be heard in the full House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee tomorrow, January 22 at 8:30 AM. Currently, Virginia is one of only six states in the country that strictly bans hunting on Sundays.  This prohibition harms Virginia's economy and threatens the very future of our hunting heritage by discouraging hunter recruitment and retention.  Hunting on Sunday gives busy families the ability to teach hunting to the next generation.  School and sport activities often dominate Saturdays for children, leaving Sunday as the only day to go hunting.  The ban on Sunday hunting eliminates the only day that many families are able to hunt.  If we can't increase or at least sustain the number of hunters, Virginia's hunting legacy will be in serious jeopardy. Hunting on one's own land – private property – should be allowed seven days a week during hunting season.  If a landowner does not support hunting on Sundays, for any reason, he or she has the right to refuse permission to hunters.
