Mass shooting: A firearms instructor who's been called a person of interest in a mass shooting in Maine yesterday is still at large this morning, authorities say. At least 16 people were killed in two locations, and dozens of others hurt. Schools and offices are closed, and people have been told to shelter in place. Animal house: The West Shore Wildlife Center, a five-year-old York County-based rehabilitation center for injured and orphaned animals, is looking for a bigger home. It can't stay in the residential neighborhood where it started, the owner says. Diner's future: A nostalgic Harrisburg diner has been saved from the scrap heap by a longtime customer who has moved it. However, as he tries to get work done to reopen it, Susquehanna Township officials say necessary permits and plans haven't been done. Leader leaves Humane Society: The director of the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area will be "departing her role" with the organization, the board of directors announced yesterday. The news of her departure comes after a series of controversies, including the fate of a dog, Pursuit, who was set to be euthanized despite objections from volunteers. |

Lookalike candies: State police are warning parents to check their children's Halloween stash for drug-infused candies. People aren't trying to sneak drugs to kids, state police say, but the products can look very similar. Trick or treat: For several central Pa. towns, trick-or-treating will be held tonight. Others will wait until Tuesday, which is Halloween. Love or hate: The Halloween debate over candy corn is on. People either love or hate its waxy texture and sugary punch. "Candy corn is objectively kind of gross, but that's what makes it good," a comedian explains. |
