View in browser  |  Get our newsletters Good Morning, Pennsylvania MONDAY, NOV. 6, 2023 • TODAY'S WEATHER Applesauce warning A Pennsylvania market's products have joined a nationwide recall of fruit pouches that may be dangerous for children.   There's a chance pouches of apple cinnamon fruit puree marketed for children have been tainted with lead. The FDA said it has received reports of seven illnesses in at least five states.   The recall has expanded: Weis Markets of Sunbury, Pa., is recalling some cinnamon applesauce products. Also recalled are items from Schnucks Markets of St. Louis and WanaBana of Coral Gables, Florida. Items were sold at places that include Weis stores, Amazon and Dollar Tree.    Lead is toxic to people of all ages, but it can be especially harmful to children. Anyone who's eaten the recalled items should be tested.   Now, let's take a look at this morning's headlines. You can find one of every game in operation at Pennsylvania casinos there, but the machines are usually silenced, and the payout is money they can't keep. It's the testing lab of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.   Money for school board races: Backed by a mix of local, regional and national funding streams, candidates with strong opinions about the state of public education are running campaigns in Pennsylvania with slick mailers, digital advertisements and text-message blasts.   Help for a home: The nonprofit Pennsylvania Furniture Mission received a grant from the United Way to get started in its plan to provide furniture free to people in need across several central Pa. counties. Read more Emergency reports Fatal shooting: A man has been arrested following a shooting Saturday in Swatara Township that killed one person and injured another, police said.   House fire: Two women jumped from a roof, suffering leg injuries, to escape a fire that burned one home and spread Saturday in Steelton. Smoke affected the high school football game nearby. All together, the fire injured four people and damaged three homes.   Rock-tossing suspects: Police have identified two juveniles they say threw large rocks at Interstate 83 traffic in York County last month. Rocks were thrown over five days, according to state police, damaging six vehicles. One rock crashed through a windshield and nearly hit a person.   Kids allowed to drive, police say: A 31-year-old woman in York County was arrested after police say she allowed the children she was watching – ages 9-12 – to drive her rental car while she was intoxicated. Read more Business Diner's new owners: With its 1950s atmosphere and breakfast favorites, the Highspire Diner is operating with new owners who say they'll keep things essentially the same.   Amusement park companies merge: Cedar Fair, which owns Dorney Park, and Six Flags are merging. The combined company, worth more than $3.5 billion, will boast 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resort properties in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.    BBQ is back: The on-again, off-again Shakedown BBQ appears to be back with a solid plan to open by the end of the year. The popular barbecue brand in Dauphin County announced it is opening a restaurant at the former Nomad's Pizza in Lower Paxton Township.  Read more Advertisement More headlines Birds' new names: The American Ornithological Society, the group that maintains English-language bird names for the U.S., announced that it will rename all bird species directly named for people, and a few others deemed offensive or exclusionary.   Mass shooter's movements: The Army reservist who killed 18 people at a bowling alley and a bar in Maine before disappearing was alive and possibly on the run during a good portion of the two-day search that followed, according to the state medical examiner's office released. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot eight to 12 hours before his body was found.   Toyota recall: Toyota has issued a recall for more than 1.8 million RAV4 vehicles because of an issue with the battery that can lead to a fire. Model years 2013 to 2018 are affected.
