York County roadside recycling program now fee based

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Starting on July 1, 2012, York County will be moving to a fee-based roadside recycling service. Previously funded through tax dollars, the service will now be available at a monthly fee of $6.25.
Sign-up forms are available on the county website, www.yorkcounty.gov, or by calling the Waste Management Center at 757-890-3780. Citizens are asked to sign up for the new program no later than June 15 to avoid a disruption in service. Only those residents who sign up for this optional collection service will continue having their recycling picked up as usual. Curbside recycling service will not be provided to homes that have not subscribed to the new program.
The monthly fee will be billed bi-monthly, for a total cost of $12.50 being added to residents' Utility Bills starting on the Sept. 15 bill for the July 1 through August 31 billing period.
The County will continue to operate the recycling drop-off site located at 145 Goodwin Neck Road.  All citizens may continue to use this facility free of charge.
