Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs helps beautify Route 17

     Last month, members of the Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs partnered with York County to beautify an area of north Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) at the turn off to Route 134 (Hampton Highway). Close to 800 daffodil bulbs were planted and will complement a selection of wildflowers that will soon be planted by York County at the same location. The bulbs planted were three separate varieties and will plant at different times through the spring.

     "This project is an example of civic involvement that we truly enjoy and appreciate," said Landscape Superintendent Joanne Chapman. "Members of the Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs not only purchased but also helped plant the bulbs."

     The Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs is an organization of twenty-two garden clubs on the peninsula. Among the major activities of the council are civic beautification projects and scholarships.

     Club members who participated in this project were: Belinda Adams, Sylvia Custer, Judy Davis, Polly Goity, Betty Joy, Regan McLean and Gina Neidenberger.
