Friend,
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data shows 302,034 illegal immigrants were encountered attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in the month of December alone. That is the highest month ever recorded in U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) history. In total, nearly 9 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since President Biden took office, including nearly 2 million known "gotaways" who escaped past Border Patrol and into the country.
This shouldn't come as a surprise.
The border crisis is a direct result of the Biden administration's open border policies and refusal to enforce existing U.S. immigration law.
In Biden's first 100 days in office, he halted border wall construction, ended the successful Remain in Mexico policy, put a moratorium on deportations, and announced a plan promising amnesty to all undocumented immigrants residing in the country illegally.
For three years, President Biden's DHS Secretary Mayorkas has refused to enforce the laws passed by Congress, abused his authority as a cabinet secretary, and misled Congress and the American people about the severity of the crisis at our border and the role his actions and decisions have played in facilitating it.
Congress has a responsibility to hold executive branch officials accountable when they fail to uphold their oath of office, abuse their authority, and/or are dishonest with the American people. This is essential in a constitutional republic built upon the separation of powers.
I will continue to work to keep the pressure on the Biden administration that we must secure our border. We must ensure our nation's laws are enforced, that our immigration programs work properly, and that we provide law enforcement officials with the resources they need to do their jobs.
Sincerely,
