Senior Center to celebrate 20th anniversary with Open House
November 2, 2011
FOR RELEASE AT WILL
The Senior Center of York will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Friday, Nov. 18, with an Open House from 1 to 3 p.m.
A short program will be presented at 1 p.m. followed by time for food and fellowship. Art and craft exhibits created by Senior Center patrons will be featured, and light refreshments will be served. The public is cordially invited to come and take part in this celebration.
The center was established in 1991 to serve as a central point for senior citizens aged 55 and up to participate in activities in York County, and was created through the efforts of the York County Board of Supervisors and many citizen volunteers. Local businesses, civic clubs and private citizens donated many of the original furnishings and fixtures. Due to continued growth, the center's current facility is the third site it has occupied. In 2010, the center also acquired a much needed adjacent storefront space.
The Senior Center of York is "home away from home" for its many patrons who enjoy an array of educational, cultural, exercise, health, and art programs. Among the activities held at the center are computer classes, cultural days, line dancing, Body Recall exercise classes, Tai Chi, health days, crafts, art classes, card and bingo games, scrapbooking, movies, a Dining Club, and AARP Driver Safety Program classes.
The Senior Center of York is located at 5314 George Washington Memorial Highway, in the Washington Square Shopping Center. For more information on daily activities or this event please call 898-3807.
