Players at all levels are invited to participate in a free nine-hole disc golf tournament at New Quarter Park on Cabin Fever Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Players in foursomes will be accompanied by a member of the Newport News Disc Golf Club who will give instructions and tips to those who have never played before and amateurs. Everyone gets a prize and tournament winners will receive additional recognition.
Cabin Fever is the York County park's annual celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when everyone is ready to get outdoors again, coordinated with Appomattox River Company. Other events begin at 7 a.m. and include a bird walk, canoe and kayak races on Queen's Creek, mountain bike trail riding, a nature scavenger hunt for kids, and sun gazing with NASA Skywatchers. Exhibits by nature and outdoor recreation organizations will be open from noon to 3 p.m. with live music provided by "Joe's Day Off."
For more information about this and other programs at New Quarter Park, call York County Parks and Recreation at 757-890-3500 or visit the Parks and Recreation pages on the York County website at www.yorkcounty.gov. Directions to New Quarter Park, a 545-acre park located at 1000 Lakeshead Drive, can also be found there.
