plenty of "no public comment" periods on York County budget talks

l noticed this timeline in an email sent by Col Tom Shepperd. These "budget talks" come after the Bd of Supervisors raised the real estate tax rate in York County on its citizens by 12.77% last year. So, is another tax increase coming? BTW, most public comment periods in York County are for 3 minutes, so prepare to  talk fast !!!

The following is a list of budget meeting for the FY2014 budget:

 

            - February 5^th – Work session with Board of Supervisors and School Board in the York Hall East Room starting at 6 p.m.  There is no public comment period for this meeting.

 

            - March 5^th – Supervisor work session in the York Hall East Room starting at 6 p.m.   There is no public comment period for this meeting.

 

            - March 19^th – County Administrator makes a formal presentation of his FY 2014 Budget to the Supervisors at 6 p.m. in the York Hall Board Room.  Citizens are invited to make comments during the Citizen Comment Period as listed in the meeting agenda. NOTE: normally the public comment period for these meetings are at the beginning, so if this holds true, then the "public comment" period will be BEFORE the presentation by the Count Administrator.

 

            - March 26^th, April 2^nd and April 9^th– Supervisors work sessions in the York Hall East Room.  All meetings start at 6 p.m.   There are no public comment periods for these meetings.

 

            - April 25^th – Public Hearing in the York Hall Board Room on the FY 2014 Proposed Budget and Tax Rates starting at 7 p.m.  Citizens are invited to make public comments on the budget.  NOTE: This might be the only public comment period after the presentation is made by the County Administrator.  

 

            - April 30 – Supervisor work session in the York Hall East Room starting at 6 p.m.  There is no public comment period for this meeting.

 

            - May 7^th –  Supervisor work session in the York Hall East Room to Adopt the FY2014 Budget and Tax Rate.  Meeting starts at 6 p.m.  There is no public comment period for this meeting.
