Senior Citizen's Dance; Wetlands Board vacancy; 4th of July Celebration schedule

 

17th Annual Senior Citizen's Spring Dinner Dance to be held June 16

     "Going Out in Style" will be the featured theme for York County's 17th Annual Senior Citizen's Spring Dinner Dance. 
     The dinner dance will be held on Saturday, June 16, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Tabb High School, located at 4431 Big Bethel Road in Yorktown. Seniors ages 55 or better are cordially invited to attend and singles or couples are welcome. Entertainment will be provided by "Glen Boswick Little Bit of Swing," and participants will also be eligible to win door prizes. 
     The dinner dance is sponsored by the Senior Center of York, York County Board of Supervisors, and the York County School Board. While admission is free, tickets are required for admission due to limited seating. 
     Seniors should register by calling the Senior Center of York at 898-3807 or by visiting the center to register and pick up tickets by Tuesday, June 12. The Senior Center of York is located at 5314 George Washington Memorial Highway in the Washington Square Shopping Center.
     Tickets are also on sale for the Quilt Drawing. The fee is $1 for one or $5 for six tickets. The drawing will take place at the dinner dance and the lucky winner will receive a beautiful quilt handmade by the center's quilters.

Board seeks applicants for the Wetlands Board

     The York County Board of Supervisors is currently seeking applications from county citizens interested in serving on the York County Wetlands Board. 
     The Wetlands Board protects public and private property, wildlife, marine fisheries, and the natural environment through preservation of county tidal wetlands. The Board issues wetlands permits, enforces the York County Wetlands Ordinance, and promotes the proper use and protection of wetland areas.
     The Wetlands Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. in York Hall in Yorktown.
     York County citizens interested in applying for appointment to the York County Wetlands Board may obtain an application at the County Administrator's Office at 224 Ballard Street in Yorktown, or by calling 890-3320. Applications may also be obtained and filed by visiting www.yorkcounty.gov, clicking on On-Line Services, and clicking on Board Bank Application.

 

2012 Yorktown 4th of July Celebration schedule

     The 33rd annual Yorktown Fourth of July Celebrationwill be held on Wednesday, July 4. Activities taking place in Historic Yorktown will include:
 
  • 8 a.m. Yorktown Independence Day 8k Run and 5K Walk - York High School
 
  • 9 a.m. Parade on Water Street - music provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Band at Riverwalk Landing
                 
  • 4 p.m. Event Parking opens Corner of Cook Road and Ballard Street
 
  • 7 p.m. Sounds of Liberty Bell Ringing Ceremony - Riverwalk Landing Stage
 
  • 8 p.m. Glen Boswick and the Sounds of Swing Orchestra - Riverwalk Landing Stage
 
  • 9:15 p.m. Spectacular Fireworks Display over the York River
 
  • 9:45 p.m. Glen Boswick and the Sounds of Swing Orchestra - Riverwalk Landing Stage
                
     The annual Yorktown Independence Day 8K Run and 5K Walk event, sponsored by the York County Historical Museum, will take place at 8 a.m. at York High School, located on Route 17 in Yorktown. Registration on July 4 begins at 6:30 a.m. Pre-registration is recommended by contacting info@happypaceraces.com.
