A variety of educational and entertaining programs are being offered at the Senior Center of York in June.
Participation is open to seniors age 55 or better and their spouses, regardless of age. The center is located in the Washington Square Shopping Center at 5314 George Washington Memorial Highway (Rt. 17), and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is closed all county holidays.

Scrapbooking & Spring Greeting Cards, Monday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Join us as Cathy Fowler of Creative Memories shows how to make beautiful cards and assists you with your scrapbook. You can also enjoy using the Cricut which helpts to design your cards. These cards and your personalized scrapbook create lasting memories and make wonderful gifts for your loved ones. Note: Please limit to four cards.
"Fishing in the York River and Chesapeake Bay," Tuesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. Designed for the beginner or experienced fisherman, Facilitator Boyd Soles, with over 60 years of experience with fishing, will share his adventures discussing technique, gear, different types and seasons for fish.
Body Recall Exercise, June 13. Would you like to have fun, meet new people, and take part in a lifetime fitness program? The next 10-week Body Recall session is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 13. Classes meet three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Class times are scheduled for 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. and the cost is $60 for the session. Please visit us at the Senior Center or call at 898-3807 for more information concerning this class.
Spring Dinner Dance, "Going Out in Style" Saturday, June 16 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Tabb High School. You are cordially invited to attend our 17th Annual Senior Citizen's Spring Dinner Dance. The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, beverage, and dessert. Entertainment will be provided by "Glen Boswick Little Bit of Swing." Admission is free but tickets are required due to possible limited seating. Registration concludes on June 12 or until space is full. For more information, call 898-3807.
AARP Driver Safety Program, June 18 & June 19. This program is designed for drivers age 50 or better, and will take place on Monday, June 18 from 12:30 – 4:45 p.m. and Tuesday, June 19 from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. The cost for this two-day program is now $12 for members of AARP and $14 for non-members.Fees should be paid by check and made out to AARP. Class registration may be made in person at the Senior Center, by phone, or by mail. Note: AARP membership, which cannot be processed the day of a class, is not required for class registration. There is no "behind the wheel" driving performed in this program. Drivers age 55 or better must attend both classes to receive the state mandated three-year automobile insurance reduction. Many insurance companies are giving insurance reductions to drivers age 50+ with the same attendance requirements. Those less than age 55 should check with their insurance company to see if they are entitled to the three-year insurance reduction. Class enrollment is limited to 25.
Digital Photography, Thursday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. New to digital photography or want to improve your skills? Instructor Margaret Morris will show us the most common features and functions of digital cameras, and how to get the best pictures from your camera. Please bring your camera and owner's manual. Health Day, "Healthier By Next Year," Wednesday, June 27 at 12:45 p.m. Health is a process not an event. It is important to understand that attaining good health requires an individual or customized approach tailored to your body's unique characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. Your body needs regular maintenance and sometimes an overhaul. Join Dr. Adam Gold of Charney Chiropractic, Back Rehab and Wellness for a discussion on specific daily steps to help improve your health. "Let's Go to the Movies," Friday, June 29, at 1 p.m. The York County Library and the Senior Center of York will present "Shallow Hal," (PG13) a 2001 romantic comedy film about a superficial man who only sees the physical beauty of women until he is hypnotized to see their inner beauty. This film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jack Black, and Jason Alexander. The movie will be shown at the Senior Center and popcorn and beverage will be served.
Computer General Use. The computers are available for general use Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. unless the lab is reserved for programmed activities. To use the computers you must sign in at the Senior Center front desk.
Dining Club. Want to meet new people, have fun and enjoy a midday meal? The Dining Club meets at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants can play Wii, bingo, dominoes, crafts or take part in a variety of other activities at the Center. Participants must be age 60 or over and register with the Peninsula Agency on Aging by calling 873-0541.
