Free Writers' Workshops at Tabb Library

The York County Public Library will be hosting three Writers' Workshops at the Tabb Library in June. The workshops are free, but registration is required. Register via the Event Calendar on the library's website, www.yorkcounty.gov/library, or by calling 890-5120.
Dr. Robert Arnett will present An Introduction to Screenwriting from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. Dr. Arnett, an Associate Professor in Old Dominion University's Department of Communication and Theatre Arts, will discuss what screenwriters do and how to get started as a budding screenwriter.
W. Michael Farmer, PhD, will present Finding Yellow Boy from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. His talk will focus on how writing fiction gets to the truth behind historical facts and the opportunities and hurdles of publishing in the early years of the 21st century. Farmer is the author of Hombrecito's War (Western Writers of America Silver Spur Award Winner for Best First Novel in 2006), Hombrecito's Search and Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright: The Betrayals of Pancho Villa.
Editing Your Writing will be presented by Narielle Living from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. Living is the author of the mysteries Signs of the South and Past Unfinished.
These workshops are funded by a generous grant from the York County Arts Commission.

York County Board of Supervisors Seek Applicants for the
York County Arts Commission Board

The York County Board of Supervisors is currently seeking applications for future vacancies from County citizens interested in serving on the York County Arts Commission. The York County Arts Commission serves as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors for the cultural arts. The Commission meets in January, June (if required), July, and October.
York County citizens interested in applying for appointment to the York County Arts Commission may obtain an application at the County Administrator's Office at 224 Ballard Street in Yorktown, or by calling 890-3320. Applications may also be obtained and filed by using the County website. Enter the County's website at www.yorkcounty.gov, click on On-Line Services, click on Board Bank Application.
