York County to hold Memorial Day ceremony

     Congressman Rob Wittman, 1st District, United States House of Representatives, will present awards to York County student winners of the "York County Remembers Poster and Essay Contest" sponsored by the York County Historical Committee at the annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2013. The Memorial Day ceremony, also sponsored by the Committee, begins at 12 noon at the War Memorial on the grounds of York Hall, 301 Main Street, Yorktown. The ceremony will be preceded by a performance from The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown at 11:45 a.m.
     Major General Arthur Bartell, Deputy Director/Chief of Staff of the Army Capabilities Integration Center at Fort Eustis, will be the keynote speaker. This year the Color Guard will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 824 and wreaths will be placed by the Comte De Grasse chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and by representatives of the Bethel 185, Isle of Wight 699, Tabb 107 and Peninsula Campaign 2385 chapters of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  
     The public is invited to attend this event in honor of those members of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in the service of our nation.
