York County parks winter schedule; Office Closings; Leaf Collection Program

 

York County parks switching to winter schedule

York County Sports Complex to Begin Winter Hours
 
Winter hours of operation will begin at the York County Sports Complex on Thursday, November 1, 2012 and will continue through Thursday, February 28, 2013. The sports complex will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or later if necessary to allow scheduled activities to conclude. The park will remain subject to closure during periods of inclement weather.
The park's 13 lighted athletic fields and three concession/restroom buildings serve as a hub for Parks and Recreation's fall and spring youth soccer and adult softball programs, York County Little League's fall and spring/summer youth baseball/softball program as well as a number of other sponsored tournaments and leagues. The sports complex also includes two playground sites, numerous picnic shelters and a paved walking/bike path open daily for the public's enjoyment.

Back Creek Park Restrooms Are Closing For Season
 
            Back Creek Park tennis court restrooms will be closing for the 2012 season on Saturday, November 3. Staff members will be on duty for the completion of any previously scheduled activity. Anyone interested in playing tennis at the park during the winter months should call the York County Parks and Recreation at 890-3500 for instructions on accessing the courts. 
 

 

York County leaf collection program begins November 12

     York County offers a leaf collection program for residents who live on publicly maintained streets. This program allows for an unlimited number of clear bags of leaves to be placed at the roadside for collection every other week.  The leaf collection program will begin the week of November 12.
     Residents who live on privately maintained streets or roads may bring leaves out to the closest public roadway for collection. In addition, ALL RESIDENTS may bring leaves year-round to the VPPSA Compost Facility located at 145 Goodwin Neck Road, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
     For leaf collection purposes the county is divided into 2 zones:
 
·         The Southern Zone includes all homes south of Dare Road, including neighborhoods in the Tabb, Coventry, Kiln Creek, Brandywine and Harwoods Mill areas. 
 
·         The Northern Zone includes all homes on and North of Dare Road, including neighborhoods along Wolf Trap Road, Goodwin Neck Road, and homes in Seaford, Marlbank, Edgehill, Yorktown, and the entire upper County. 
 
 
     Leaf collection for the Southern zone will be the following weeks: November 12, November 26, December 10, December 24, January 7, January 21, and January 28.
     Leaf collection for the Northern zone will be the following weeks: November 19, December 3, December 17, December 31, January 14, and January 28.
     Leaves must be in clear bags and bags must be easy to handle by one person (maximum weight limit = 40 lbs). Clear bags can be purchased at local hardware, grocery and department stores.
     Bags must be at the front roadside by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week.   Pick up will be completed by the end of the week.

County offices to close in honor of Veterans Day

Collection of garbage and recyclables will not be affected by the holiday. The compost facility, citizen drop-off centers and transfer station located on Goodwin Neck Road will be open, however the administrative offices of the Waste Management Center will be closed.
